Investors in People is the internationally recognised Standard awarded to organisations that successfully combine people development with achieving organisational objectives – a mark of good practice.
Whether you are a large or small business, school or charity, people are at the heart of what you do. Your success depends on you getting the best out of everyone. But, if you are investing in their development, you want to see a good return. Your investment in your people needs to help you achieve your objectives too.
People are the key to improving performance in your organisation – recruiting, retaining, developing, motivating, managing and communicating with people are all vitally important, yet many organisations do not get these areas right. Working within the Investors in People framework can help to address these issues and provide real benefits to your bottom line.
Research has shown that benefits can include:
- Increased productivity
- Higher customer satisfaction levels
- Smoother organisational change
- Improved management and leadership
- More effective communications
- A highly skilled workforce
And that’s what Investors in People is all about – energising and stretching your organisation to help it grow. It’s about investing in people for success. Thousands of organisations become Investors in People because it’s a good way of managing people and doing business.
The Investors in People Standard
The Standard was revised in November 2004, and the current version is based on the straightforward concept of ‘plan, do, review’, with the following 3 principles:
- Developing strategies to improve the performance of the organisation
- Taking action to improve the performance of the organisation
- Measuring the impact on the performance of the organisation
10 indicators of good practice, each with a central theme, underpin the principles. Each indicator has a number of evidence requirements (as before).
